Pairs

These are packs  of cards, much like playing cards.

The cards are in groups of 4, two cards with a particular word such as ‘pram’ and two cards with a corresponding picture. The backs are all the same. Something on the cards must make it clear which way up the words should be read. (An arrow pointing upwards perhaps.)

On the back of the Pairs cards for the 3-letter game put "1"; the 4-letter has  "2" and so on, up to 12. So if two pupils are playing at different levels and they drop the lot, you can sort them out into a set again!

Various games can be played such as:-

Lay the cards out face down.

Each player in turn picks up two cards.

If they have a pair (word and matching picture, matching pictures, or matching words) then they keep them and have another go.

If they do not have a pair they replace the cards exactly where they found them, face down, and the next player has a turn.

When all the cards have been won the person with the most pairs wins.
