Pronunciation
The pronunciation of
each sound is described in the step for that phonic. The pupil can also hear them pronounced by clicking on indicated
part of the page. However it is difficult to pronounce the phonics
satisfactorily. With the best will in the world a person saying c will say ker
rather than the sort of click that it should be. This does not matter in most
cases as the pupil makes the mental leap required.
It will help however if the
pupil already knows how a word is pronounced. For example children will usually
already know how to say ‘cat’. They can therefore be asked to say the word
‘cat’ and practice breaking it up into the separate sounds for c, a,
and t, for themselves.
