Get the pupil to sound d, o, and g.
Teach the pupil to write d, o, and g using
the dot to dot guide and then using lined paper.

Show how from 4 letters c.a.t.o
we can also make a, at, act, cot. If
act is a new word, explain it. Look at the irregular word 'to', so that the
pupil can see the t and hear it work. Say "It looks like to (the
beginning of top) and we say 'too"' making the oo short.
See if you can write these words using the two
guide‑lines. The letters sit on the bottom line; the small letters fit
exactly and the tall letters either start above or (for a d) go up above
the top line. ‘d’ is the only
letter that goes UP tall; all the other tall letters come down. Try to write
and read:

Teach the pupil to
sound the sounds of the following new words:- cot, dot, tag, got.
Write your name. Names begin with a capital
letter. (I teach capital letters as they crop up.)
