Learn the letter r. This starts at the top, and is down‑up‑and‑over. It does not start on the

line at the bottom. It has the same movement as an n but stops short.

Have the pupil practice writing the letter r, first, using the dot to dot guide above, then on lined paper.

Set out the alphabet card, and add r, making 16 letters.

Make new words: rip rod rid ran rot by listening to sounds

Get the pupil to sound the sounds of the new words.
