Learn the letter m. Show how m, n and r all start the same, down‑up.

Sound m with the lips closed, humming, not "mer". (Mer has 2 sounds m-er).

Have the pupil practice writing the letter m, first, using the dot to dot guide above, then on lined paper.

Set out the alphabet card, and add m, making 17 letters. Make words, by listening to sounds mat ram dam dim mop map .

Get the pupil to sound the sounds of the new words.
