Step 20

Click here to hear the sound of l.

Learn the letter l ‑ a long line.

Pronunciation: the l at the end should be the same as the l at the beginning. In words like bell, tell, apple, the l should NOT say OO. Apple is NOT appoo. The tongue should be up behind the top teeth, and the lips should not come forward. If the pupil is saying we‑oo for well, use a mirror and let him see that he is not saying a l. Let the pupil reach high into the air and then come down to draw an l, : llong line.

Have the pupil practice writing the letter l, first, using the dot to dot guide above, then on lined paper.

Set out the alphabet card, and add l, making 20 letters.

Make words:   let lit lot lap log leg lag lad pull doll, by listening to their sounds.

Get the pupil to sound the sounds of the new words.
